Our Library Bourke Public School has a fantastic library. We have a large collection of fiction, non fiction and reference books for use by all students. At lunch time students are welcome to visit the library for some quiet reading time, to play on the computers or to play with the puzzles, games and puppets.

While they were here I was able to give each Stage a library lesson in our library. The children liked being able to see our library and had the chance to borrow their own books. It is great to be able to put names to faces!

Library Lessons This is my first year at Bourke Public School and as Librarian I am enjoying getting to know all the students. I teach each class, Kindergarten to Year 6, for a 50 to 70 minute libray lesson each week. During these lessons students learn about how the library works, where to find information and how to arrange this information in useful ways.I also teach library to Distance Education children each Wednesday across the region. I send these students library worksheets and during the air lessons we work on these together and I read them stories. The students have lots to tell each other and enjoy the chat sessions. I was very lucky to meet these students when they attended a workshop here at school.

Resources Our library has a wonderful array of books and resources for students and teachers to borrow and use. As well as the fiction, non fiction and reference books the library also has posters, reading recovery books, tapes nad vidoes for teachers to use during thie lessons. In addition to this the library has 4 computers that have access to the Internet and are networked to other computers throughout the school. We also have a television and 2 Enquiry Terminals which staff and students use to locate resources within the school. Looking forward to a great year of learning and remember: Reading is Great!!!
