Aim

Bourke Public School aims to provide knowledge, develop skills and foster understandings that will help children operate effectively as members of society now and in the future. The school endeavours to develop in children appropriate attitudes towards themselves, others and their environment.

General Information

Bourke Public School was originally located in a building down the Main Street where our TAFE is now. It was opened in August 1866. In 1975 the school moved to Green Street and it was officially opened in 1976.

At present the school has an enrollment of approximately 300 students. Our school also includes the Bourke School of Distance Education.

Our classes are organised into mixed age/mixed ability developmental learning stages where children work at their ability level within their own stage. We have the following classes: 4 x Stage 1 Classes, 3 x Stage 2 Classes and 2 x Stage 3 Classes.

The school is made up of 11 permanent classrooms, 3 demountable buildings. The school also has a Library, Administration Block, Canteen, and a large back oval with some Play Equipment. We have two basketball courts, cricket pitch and nets and a football oval. Located on the oval are 2 train carriages that we also use and these have been painted, carpeted and air conditioned.

We use one of the trains as our Computer Lab. We use

the other one for a Literacy Room.

School Creed

This is our school, Let peace dwell here,

Let the rooms be filled with happiness,

Let love abide here, Love of one another,

Love of human kind, Love of life itself,

and love of God, Let us remember that

as many hands build a house,

So many hearts make a school.
